| 3493 | 1999-11-29 06:13:00 | My brother in law's Compaq computer has developed a problem with the sound volume since he installed a Voodoo 2 card. Game performance was poor (only 1Mb Video RAM) so we installed a secondhand Creative Labs Voodoo 2 card. Game graphics are now excellent but we have noticed that when playing games, the sound becomes erratic and intermittent. Altering the volume control on the monitor results in breaking up of the sound as you increase the volume. Removing the pass through cable from the back of the Voodoo card to the monitor outlet and connecting the monitor up normally brings the sound back to normal. Obviously something to do with the running of the Voodoo card. The card has the latest drivers as does the sound card. No conflicts are apparent in the device manager. This computer has had various problems over the last 6 months resulting in changing the CD ROM, modem (internal to external), and floppy drive. Perhaps a power supply problem? Machine specs are Compaq Presario 4503, Win 98(clean install), Pentium 166MMX,48MBRAM. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks Darryl Lennane |
