3822 2000-01-19 04:47:00 having had my pc for just over a year I am still fairly new. this was my problem. I could not connect to the internet, the reason was my modem did not connect. I took the pc to the shop I bought it from. the modem was taken out and checked, but nothing wrong there. I got the my pc back with the words that they could not fix it, as it seemed to be a software proplem. I was advised to delete my software one by one and check after every program deleted if the modem would work. I did all that but to no avail. It wasn't untill all my programs had been deleted that I found that the the technician had taken the modem out, but ommitted to re-instal the modem. I re-installed the modem myself with the help of a disk and the modem was working fine. What bugged me is, that for all I know it could heave been the first piece of software what had caused the trouble.
I spent days to get all my programs and software back, but am now having a problem as I am unable to install Publisher, Works and Word as I do not have the certificate of authenticity number.
I have rung and been to see the technician where I bought the computer from a dozen of times and despite his promises to obtain the number, it has been no go.
I have rung him and told him what I thought of him, as if the modem had been re-installed I would not have had so much time wasted.
I cannot afford to buy these programs again. Please can you help.
