3814 2000-01-17 13:02:00 Recently I have upgraded my machine to a 500Mhz Packard Bell Club 500. I was annoyed to discover that there were no ISA slots to fit my trusty old Reveal (rebadged Scantac 2C) scanner interface card in. No problem I thought...time for a newie anyways. So off I went to find a new scanner. First attempt was a Canon FB320U. Everything installed OK, but Word and Works would crash their little MS brains out when I accessed the Omnipage OCR software. Many wasted hours trying to get hold of their 0800 'support' suggested to me that I might be better off with another brand. Back it went. Enter Mustek 1200ED. What a machine! Great OCR software too (Textbridge Professional - NOT LE!) All the software installed, but my computer simply refuses to see the scanner at all. Seems to think that it isn't connected. Funny, my laser printer stills works, and that's hung off the back of the scanner. This is very frustrating. I downloaded the latest drivers, but while at least the scanner was correctly identified, it too was 'off line' on a permanent basis. Is this just 'one of those things'? Are Packard Bells particularly difficult to get along with? All of my other programs go really well (esp. my games, not that I play them much, of course).

Any advice, experience would be appreciated. I am getting tired of returning scanners all the time!
