| 3878 | 2000-01-29 04:38:00 | Santa gave me a Hewlett Packard ScanJet 3200C for Xmas, and I installed and test ran it before leaving for the holiday. On our return, the computer seemed a little unstable, and - to cut a long story short, the scanner stopped working, and the only way I could get past the 'blue screens' to complete a boot to use my computer, was to unplug the scanner, and remove all associated software. I tried the excellent 'self help' site provided by H.P. but had no joy. After phone conversations and emails with them, I tried a couple of fixes they suggested but still nothing, so they sent me back to my retailer to replace the machine with a new one. During installation, I did still get the 'blue screens' 'Fatal OO at 0028:C17AB8A8 in VXD PPSCAN(01)+00005DD8 repeated twice, and another the same except :C734DD8 in the middle, during the three reboot processes required during installation. At the end however, the computer and scanner seemed to work perfectly, and after twice shutting down and restarting, everything seemed to confirm that indeed the scanner had been faulty. The following day however, after an apparently good start up, the system froze and crashed when I clicked on the scanner! Rebooting got me the same sort of Fatal exception OO,s and OE,s in VXD PPSCAN(01), and then 'Hpprsclt performed an illegal operation. Invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at 015f:bff8836d' followed by a screed of Register references. That leaves the computer frozen, and Reset is necessary. I have so many of these notices recorded, that I have tried to minimise the use of them in this letter, in the hope that you wont need all of them to establish what is happening. The only two slightly different, to have appeared in my most recent effort to connect the scanner, were in MSCAN32(01) and VWIN32(05). Hewlett Packard have now suggested that my Windows files may be corrupted, and Windows should be reinstalled, after consultation with my computer supplier? My computer is a 6x86mx with 32mb RAM, 3.2Gb H/D, and 32xCD ROM. Hope you can make some sense of this? Regards Ken Power |
