1261628 2012-02-26 18:36:00 Does a motherboard with two CPU's have better performance than a motherboard with a single CPU? :stare: ChazTheGeek (16619)
1261629 2012-02-26 18:55:00 It's mainly server type boards that use dual cpu's and they are awesome at multitasking but for normal home use it's unlikely to be worth the cost. For highly threaded solutions they are obviously better but otherwise not. dugimodo (138)
1261630 2012-02-27 02:27:00 Hmm that reminds me I have a dual xeon motherboard floating around somewhere at home, really should install it and use it. nedkelly (9059)
1261631 2012-02-27 03:15:00 I find them to be particularly useful when you're at your local lan. Then you can brag about all the extra performance you'll never use. icow (15313)

1261633 2012-02-27 03:52:00 Which is faster , in everyday use
a Slow CPU speed Dual Core (lets say 1.6Ghz or 2Ghz)
a Fast CPU Speed Single core (3Ghz)

Im betting on the Single core
:)

1261634 2012-02-27 03:56:00 So they would be good for gaming? I suppose it depends on the CPU type though.
Thanks guys.

1261635 2012-02-27 04:07:00 1101 depends on what you're doing, dual cores multitask better but single threaded apps get no advantage from them. On the whole the dual core would feel quicker.

Chaz, not really. Games still mainly use 2 cores or less and server type CPUs are designed for server type workloads not gaming. A fast dual core chip on a cheap desktop board would game as well or better than a dual CPU motherboard with two CPUs.

1261636 2012-02-27 04:26:00 Ok thanks. I will get away from dual CPU boards. ChazTheGeek (16619)

In everyday use? Probably the dual core.
