1237492 2011-10-14 06:52:00 I have been arguing with my brother about which OS is best, XP or W7?
I like W7, he likes XP, says that W7 is too fussy.
Windows 7 is a bit strange to begin with, but I find that the settings are very easy to make.
Both are stable.

Which do you prefer?

1237493 2011-10-14 06:57:00 i prefer win7 as it is newer :D it blends with office 2007/2010 .
and it is a more like other OS on the market etc . . .

we have xp sp3 on a old computer acting as a network print server as the printer does not work with x64 OS .
xp is easier laid out . less clicks to get a place . if you are to browse the network etc . . it is easier . likewise sharing folders et al . . . but xp just feels old .

win7 has free antivirus (MS), gadgets on desktop like weather, FX etc etc . . . , free image software .

1237494 2011-10-14 07:16:00 I'm surprised you're even considering a decade year old OS. :p pcuser42 (130)
1237495 2011-10-14 07:43:00 :devil Vista is better than either, really, if you want to arrange a folder in the order you prefer, yet still want a decent search function. KarameaDave (15222)

7 is better than Vista which in turn is better than XP, which is in turn better than 2000. ;)

1237497 2011-10-14 07:48:00 Both are alright. I'm still using XP in XP mode (in Win7 Pro) Speedy Gonzales (78)

Office can go to blazes as far as I am concerned. Won't use it - OO is the way for me - so there's no consideration for this trivial bit for me.

and it is a more like other OS on the market etc ...

Do you mean something that starts with the 'L'-word? Not a biggie to me as a qualifier, methinks.

win7 has free antivirus (MS), gadgets on desktop like weather, FX etc etc..., free image software.

BUT - do you mean that I cannot run MSI on my XP machines?

I do. Use it, that is. It works a treat and I have no problems with it at all. So there that too.

1237501 2011-10-14 18:55:00 From this side of The Equator and the Northern Hemisphere, ME sux. I have never had such an unstable platform in my experience.

It seemed to gobble RAM or IRQs or buffers or something and the puter just got 'full o' cr@p' fast and required a reboot - which it was quite capable of doing all by itself all the time - just to clear out it's head.
