1237299 2011-10-13 08:05:00 I couldn't care less about third world countries. We need to sort out all the starving people and **** in our on country first.

And that country got millions a few years ago. There is no way they can be starving again.

1237300 2011-10-13 17:56:00 Haiti has long been one of the poorest countries in the world, with many of its people living on less than $2 a day.
Haiti Facts

One in 10 children is acutely malnourished; nearly one in five is underweight.

40% of all 5-year-olds have stunted growth and brain development.

76% of Haitians are living on less than $2 a day.

Haiti's average household income is about $400 a year.

But the poverty got even worse in 2010, when a massive earthquake struck in January, killing 316,000 people and displacing more than 2 million. As of July 2011, nearly 600,000 Haitians were still displaced, according to the International Organization of Migration.

And it's well known that in countries like that, govt corruption takes most of the money.

Actually the govt here manages to waste a lot.

Apparently Mr Key said the oil clean up has cost $12 million already. Hmm, maybe the general public and some buckets should have been allowed.

They also wasted $2.84 million on unneeded accommodation in Ch/ch.

People living on the streets, people near death etc... We need to sort out our countries problems (including economy problems) before even thinking about helping third world countries.

1237303 2011-10-14 19:01:00 Some of these countries are not worth spending money on, and everyone knows 90% of it doesnt get there. They should evacuate some countries Gobe1 (6290)

Had a devastiting earthquake, just like us in Christchurch and boy didn't we get supplied with food, etc, etc etc.

Good to see some good American suppliers' again helping out. Shame on the 10% rich guys causing the States to flounder !! BUFFET is right, they should be paying more taxes.

Rubbish!! Usually self inflicted. No person in this country should starve if they don't
1. Pee it up against the wall
2. scramble their brains with drugs... or
3. Give it all to the pokies or Geegees.

The social policies of all the governments since Michael Joseph Savage's Labour govenment have eliminated that.

Exactly. There is no excuse for people to be living in the streets in NZ, or "near death" because they can't feed themselves when we have so many welfare services set up to help people.

People seem to think that "poverty" means a NZ kid without an iPod. Go to Haiti, and other 3rd world nations and you'll see real poverty. Haiti was poor to begin with - the earthquake has made matters worse.
