Microsoft? Microsoft doesn't give a damn what you use your copy of Windows for.

Adobe for one can see that Apple is not the only platform considering they release their software for Windows as well...

1261145 2012-02-27 06:39:00 The days of design and apple are long gone... Um not at all. The amount of design software for mac surpasses that for windows. Although alot of big names are normally on both systems.

By that I meant that it is not exclusively required to have a mac, but people still buy them because of the hangover from the idea that "mac's are better than PC for design"

1261146 2012-02-27 06:52:00 Have just read through them all - how interesting that quite a few of you recommend staying on a Windows and running Adobe on this!

And I just got a new PC in October last year so probably wiser for me, for the time being, to stick with this machine and practice Adobe on it.

I would imagine that later on if the situation comes to me having to use a Mac in my job, that it would be somewhat easy to relearn the short cuts etc?

Thanks for your advice guys.So what area of design are you wanting to get in to?

1261147 2012-02-27 08:38:00 Something like sub-editing. My strength really is the proofreading & editing side of things but so many of these job ads usually ask for design experience. I'm guessing it's to do the actual layout of the publication. caffy (2665)

I was just getting at the fact that for a very long period of time microsoft was the worlds largest consumer of Powermac G5's.

1261149 2012-02-27 08:43:00 Unfortunitly layout and print ready files seems to be something a lot of design grads are lacking and not really taught. We usually hire a new designer straight out of tech then spend the next 6 months getting them up to speed for the print industry, which doesn't seem to be even mentioned in the design course. plod (107)
1261150 2012-02-27 09:06:00 I'm gonna give it a go anyway :) caffy (2665)
1261151 2012-02-27 09:08:00 I'm gonna give it a go anyway :) sounds like you would be better suited to a print house instead of a design only place. Where are you located? plod (107)

Which is probably why there is now a digital print apprenticeship.
I see the single button mouse issue was brought up, but most designers I know work with a tablet instead of a mouse. Is that the norm Plod?

Is that the norm Plod? our designers don't use tablets often, but we are a print house so their do lots of everything. Two of the designers still use the apple mouse for some reason, the other a Logitech. Yes I see their now have the digital apprenticeship. Although I never bothered with it myself being offset trained. I split my time between the two.
