Be aware you've only got a 320 Gb hard drive....and with an HD program being in the order of 10 Gb an hour. Although I have heard of people doing upgrades on the drives. |

You're starting to leave the realm of "consumer devices" now. This is where a custom built PVR is more applicable. Tivos are designed for plug and go functionality. |

| 1261906 | 2012-02-29 02:45:00 | gotcha. I think the plug & play attributes of tivo make up for the reduced HDD size, compared with other options with bigger HDD. I guess we'd only us 1080p setting for the odd movie, like avatar etc, and keep every other recording quality set lower. Appreciate your help, cheers again! |

| 1261907 | 2012-02-29 03:22:00 | 1080i and you have no say in the matter. 1080i is what is broadcast - whether the program is hd or not. That is what you will record. Exceptions of course, prime, c4, u etc are only 576i. |

| 1261908 | 2012-02-29 05:54:00 | Actually it does have the option to add an external HDD for extra storage. It's meant to be the TiVo branded one but apparently you can tell it to ignore the warning and use a different one. I haven't tried this myself. 320G might sound small for HD but I have never had space issues in the time I've had mine (more than a year). Edit: you can buy the optional network software to allow transferring shows onto a pc, haven't tried that either. |

Cheers again everyone for your help - without the valuable information you've given me I would have gone down an entirely different path, and not known about the better alternatives! |
