1237438 2011-10-14 07:22:00 Are you assuming that these parents are Māori? Why?

I have to admit that I would assume they are maori.

Correctly or not, it is sadly a reflection of real world events rather then any fault of mine.

1237442 2011-10-14 13:49:00 Just clarify for me here.

Are youse guys LEGALLY REQUIRED to help thwart the commission of a crime if it is going on in your vicinity?

Seems rather - er - I dunnow.

How can a law or rule require an unarmed and untrained citizen to intervene?

Intervene by reporting it and not just ignoring, which seems to be the case far to often.

Whats happened the with some murder cases here the family have conspired not to say anything about what happened to the police.
And it wasnt illegal here to remain silent.

All well and good I think too.

But I was wondering if a NZ citizen is required to call the cops on felonious activity?

In the US, it is not required unless it's in your own home or under your own roof. Not too sure if it happens in a business setting though.

One other thing we have here is The Good Samaritan Act that exonerates one should one try to save someone's life (say, in a potentially fatal car accident - burning-inverted car, etc) and they accidentally kill the person they are trying to help.

Even dragging a person out of harms way and thereby killing them accidentally is not considered a situation whereby the helper is held accountable.

Without those laws, even a doctor or a nurse won't help if they might be liable for any injuries they might inadvertently inflict.
