| 1260843 | 2012-02-23 07:16:00 | Hi, I've started my first build and just wondering if it'll be compatible with the new ivy bridge cpus or if i'll need to buy an i3 to flash the bios to the latest version. I have the Asus P8Z68-V LE mobo (I didn't know anything about Ivy bridge when I bought it, I was going to use a 2600k) Other specs: SILVERSTONE Strider Essential series ST70F-ES Antec 300 case 16gb corsair vengeance ram Antec kuhler H20 920 Probably going to wait for nvidias new line of video cards before I choose one. Tell me what you think of the specs, any feedback and opinions much appreciated! |

| 1260844 | 2012-02-23 08:31:00 | Intel has said the ivy bridge cpu's will be compatible with the sandy bridge 1155 socket and ivy bridge-e with the sandy bridge e socket (2011?). As for the bios update, Idk will probably have to wait and see. | icow (15313) | ||

Sometimes the systems will run fine but not set the CPU speed correctly which allows a BIOS upgrade, sometimes they don't and you need a compatible chip. You could always buy a low end CPU to use in the mean time and sell it when ivy bridge comes out. Even the cheapest Pentium chip www.pp.co.nz outperforms most Phenom II quad core chips for gaming see here www.tomshardware.com |

Ill hang onto the CPU once im done and build a file server or something, ill probably just use the stock heatsink for this and the water cooler of the ivy bridge as I've heard they're a bit fiddly to install . |
