1237703 2011-10-15 09:51:00 Only beating Wales by one point whilst having 15 men vs. 14 for most of the game.
The Irish ref. was getting revenge for Wales victory last Saturday.
The Red card was ridiculous.

1237704 2011-10-15 10:14:00 Wales could have won the game but for having their Captain sent off. Close game. Bobh (5192)

No it wasn't. Those are the rules.

1237706 2011-10-15 11:13:00 No it wasn't. Those are the rules.Actually, they're not - see here (www.irblaws.com):

(j) Lifting a player from the ground and dropping or driving that player into the ground whilst that player's feet are still off the ground such that the player's head and/or upper body come into contact with the ground is dangerous play.
Sanction: Penalty kick

(a) Any player who infringes any part of the Foul Play Law must be admonished, or cautioned and temporarily suspended for a period of ten minutes’ playing time, or sent-off.

I agree that a card was warranted, but I can't find anywhere in the rules that mandates a red card for this type of offence, and in my opinion the red was too harsh. The French player wasn't injured, and the decision arguably changed the final outcome of the match.

A more appropriate approach to the issue would have been to yellow-card him, and then look into the matter further after the game - that is what the citing commissioner is for.

1237707 2011-10-15 18:40:00 There is no way of knowing Wales would have won or not if there was only an orange card instead of a red, but i have to admit Wales played extremely well and their relentlessness and possession surely should have made a difference if the 15th player was there. We will never know. It was a tough call and especially so for a semi final game.
Do they not have 10minutes sin bin anymore??

1237708 2011-10-15 19:09:00 I don't actually follow the game, but just happened to watch it last night by chance.
It appeared to me that Wales would have won if their goal kicking had been as good as the French.

1237709 2011-10-15 19:37:00 I haven't seen the game yet, I'll watch a reply when I get home. But from what I've heard, the tackle has no malicious intent and the player wasn't injured? Seems ridiculous for a red card which probably changed the outcome of the match. xyz823 (13649)
1237710 2011-10-15 19:50:00 Missing that conversion is what changed the outcome of the game..... Metla (12)

Many missed kicks by the Welsh?

1237712 2011-10-15 20:32:00 Many missed kicks by the Welsh?

3 or 4 were missed, any one of which would have won them the game.

The Welsh deserved to win, they played better in spite of losing their captain to an unfair call by the ref.

Never mind, it will be all the better to see the French destroyed by the AB's next Sunday.
