| 1237556 | 2011-10-15 02:12:00 | Thanks for posting those links plod - interesting reading. Possibly the reason they haven't gone after the other manufacturers is because of the supplier relationship Samsung have with Apple. I guess there is a 'breach of trust' issue with so much that, on the face of it, looks similar. But when you come down to it there are only a small number of ways of approaching the delivery of the functionality on a similar-sized device. The user experience is totally different on the respective devices - and that to me is the key thing. With the icon similarity argument, it could be argued that a similar (not "the same") icon for a similar function on a different device is appropriate as it might be the logical expectation for the user to see a person's outline on an icon to indicate "Contacts", or an envelope to indicate "Mail". Those things should not be able to be "owned". Compare the icon for Mail that MS use for Outlook and the Mail icon on Gmail. They both use an envelope to some extent or another.... Similar deal with the packaging - comparing packaging of an item from 2007 with that of the packaging for a different item from 4 years later is just stupid. Over time, packaging technology changes, styles change, costs change (it makes far more sense to package an item with minimal material)... |
