2011-10-13 22:32:00 | In the 200+ years that have had an internet connection have never exceeded my data cap no idea how much it is but fire a fair bit of stuff around up and down. First thing this morning noticed a very slow connection speed and a speed test soon confirmed that. Ok me thinks day one of the fancy new iCloud with the new Apple OS for the iPad so call ihug (Vodafone) confirmed yes I had used 2 Gig upload in 24 hours and for being a naughty boy my speed is reduced to snail pace for 24 hours. Still heaps of data in the monthly cap though. Sure had installed the new Apple OS and the initial upload to their iCloud was probably the main culprit but think there is a lesson here. Be very wary with cloudy stuff unless you understand your data caps totally!

2011-10-13 22:43:00 | 200+ years? You must have been one of the first on the intrawebz0rs, I've only been "online" for 199 years... But yeah once you're "using it", data caps aside, it's great. Things like Instant Upload in the Google+ App for Android (Not iOS I know, but stay with me on this) allow photos to be uploaded instantly as soon as I take them to my Google+ account. They're not shared, but they're ready so that when I get back to my PC (Or I can do it from my phone if I really want), I can just tick the ones I like and hit "Share". No waiting, no nothing, it's all ready to go. It also then means I can take photos on both my Tablet as well as my Phone, the device no longer matters, both upload the photos instantly, both are backed up. Granted this means I only take photos at 2MP instead of 5MP to save on the data-transfer, but it's enough for on-screen viewing and I'm happy with it. Still, that sucks you've gone through so much so quickly :( Any ideas what it was uploading? Images?

2011-10-14 20:31:00 | Well the 24 hours in the slow lane sin bin is over (only after I had to ring ihug and get them to rest something) but find there must be heaps out there got caught. Eldest lad (and he is CEO of a large tech outfit) stuffed up their home downloading for a busy school holiday day so his shares were down a bit with the family! | stuffed (1469) | |

2011-10-14 21:43:00 | The Cloud - a lofty concept, but it seems a bit like vapourware. ;) When clouds get too big they sometimes turn on the strobes, dump their contents liberally on everybody below, and burn a randomly selected few.

2011-10-14 23:07:00 | If I made us of Cloud computing I'd run my own server because along with having no TOS, and being able to access at extra high speed at home since your server is local you can als run other services such as SSH/VPN connections to your personal cloud. Only once NZ has decent broadband prices and caps and speeds though.
