3935 2000-02-05 01:29:00 I am trying to setup
networking and modem sharing between my two home pc's the one with the modem 'server' is as follows
running
windows 98se
redhat linux 6.1
64mb ram
agp video
toshiba dvd rom
4.5gb quantum
17.2 gb seagate
56k dynalink internal isa modem.
cnet 930e powernic ethernet card running mode 10base 2 ie coax/bnc cable connection tjoint, terminators etc connected properly.

the other pc 'client'
is running win98se
has 32mb sdram
pci video
40x cdrom
cnet 930e powernic ethernet card

i cannot get a simple ping reply even from either system on the opposite computer, ive tried everything reading the net-3 howto, under linux, under windows trying multiple applications
wingate, winproxy, sysgate, ishare...

under microsoft networking and file sharing enabled they cannot see each other on the network yet, if i use the diagnostic utility (dos)provided i can set one ethernet card as a responder the other as a transponder and send packets back and forth.
