| 4105 | 2000-02-28 00:38:00 | On installing a PCI USB controller card, Win98 assigned IRQ 10 to it, which is the same IRQ the CREATIVE sound card is jumpered to, so neither device will work; and you cannot reassign the IRQ of the USB card through Control Panel. No problem, as the last remaining IRQ (5) is unused, I moved the jumper from IRQ 10 to IRQ 5 on the sound card and rebooted. WIN98 'Found New Hardware', and in the process reassigned the USB controller to IRQ 5, which then conflicts with the rejumpered sound card. I have had to remove the USB controller to get sound back. Is there a way around this conflict? I am reluctant to remove the sound card and reinstall it after reinstalling the USB controller and allowing Win98 to assign an IRQ, as the sound card is also a SCSI controller requiring an IRQ, and there is every chance WIN98 will assign a conflicting IRQ under these circumstances as well. FYI - the motherboard has a 10 pin USB header on it - but it's a fake, hence the need for a USB card. |
