4167 2000-03-06 00:36:00 I have a Philips PCA645VC Web-cam which uses the USB port on my Compaq Pressario 2292 running Win 98. The camera has worked correctly until one day following an incident where the pc started to play a .wav file and hung whilst loop-playing a burst of sound. My only option was to power-down the pc. On restart, the OS detected a new hardware device; my camera, and identified it as 'Unknown Device'. Since then I have tried totally without success to re-install the camera. I can assign the correct driver but the system tells me it is incorrect and the camera doesn't work. I tried removing the hardware but after plugging in the camera it still came back as 'Unknown device'. I tried uninstalling the Philips sofware, clearing all references to Philips and 'unknown device' from the Registry, and still it reinstalled as unknown device. I've downloaded Windows Update patches, Philips updated installation disk, and reloaded the system drivers from the installation disk - all to no avail.
I am suspecting either the cameras signature is somehow 'stuck' with 'Unknown Device', or a driver or something is missing or corrupted, but now I'm at a loss as to what else to try.
