| 4438 | 2000-04-09 01:47:00 | In diagnosing a problem running Access97 (the 'no license' problem, solved via a download based on advice from a previous post -thanks!) I found that user.exe is corrupted. Consensus of earlier posts on this is that it should be fixed, possibly by replacing it with an uncorrupted version from the installation disk. However, I can't find it on the installation disk. One post said 'See if you can 'shutdown Windoze and restart in MS-DOS mode'. From there, extract a fresh copy of USER.EXE and overwrite the copy on the hard drive with it.' Extract it from where? I'm running Windows98, and haven't noticed any major problems except the one with Access97 which turned out to be unrelated. If I end up having to reinstall Windows98, are there any back articles in PCWorld that provide guidance? Thanks Cathy |
