Acer is nearly as bad, they aren't badly specced but the build quality...They used to be pretty poor but have to say these days I've probably worked on more Compaq/Hp's, Dells and Toshibas than Acer, have known and have supplied plenty over the years, I think I've dealt with a screen malfunction which was replaced on warranty and that about it. Although I have to say that some Acers seem to be built with a bottle-neck in them, either slow memory or slow motherboard speed or something. While I prefer not to supply them (or recommend them), they dont seem to cause as much trouble compared to Compaqs, Dells etc. Iantech (16386)

1263137 2012-05-19 05:08:00 I thought Toshibas were good?

1263141 2012-05-19 09:15:00 I thought Toshibas were good?Yep, its all I used to recommend once, then about 2~3 yrs ago every one that I put clients onto all developed battery and charging faults. Mostly just outside their warranty dates, although a few failed in the first 6 months, some didnt hold a charge properly from day one. Although I have to say that was the Satellite range, the Tecra and Portégé range seemed fine. Only other real problem I have found has been failing hard drives. I still think they are pretty good and trouble free on the whole though.

GameJunkie, have to say I've only ever had one issue with ASUS and that was about 6 yrs ago. Some of their bundled software had a vulnerability in it that was being exploited and when installed, the laptop kept picking up viruses. Once this was worked out and not installing their software, the system was very good, fast and stable - until the guy left it on the roof of his car and started to drive off and run it over!! Never had an ASUS problem since with hardware or software have to say.
