1238320 2011-10-20 19:56:00 Has she proffered any proof? Cicero (40)
1238321 2011-10-20 21:16:00 Best comment I have heard about the Pope - "He has got it all back to front you know - he kisses the ground and walks on women". Seems to be an accurate observation IMHO. John H (8)
1238322 2011-10-20 23:49:00 Go the history revisionists, conscripted into Hitler Youth, didnt attend meetings, deserted from the service. Yeah right next they will say his flak battery aimed off at our aircraft like that episode on Simpsons where Bart aimed off at a bird.
Anyway if he deserted from the organization he was committing a crime punishable by death in wartime so if nothing else he was a traitor to his country during its hour of need.

1238323 2011-10-21 00:54:00 I have no time for popes, bishops, archbishops or whatever, but I think there is one charge you could/should not level at Ratzinger. The fact that he was in a anti aircraft battery is of itself no proof that he was a Nazi. The ordinary rank and file servicemen in the Luftwaffe, Wehrmacht, or Kriegsmarine were never prosecuted for being war criminals, nor were they necessarily Nazis. They may just have been patriots. Whilst he may have plenty to be ashamed of, simply trying to stop planes bombing his country shouldn't be considered reprehensible, or evidence of Nazism. John H (8)
1238324 2011-10-21 01:11:00 No - not necessarily were they actually Nazis but they blessed the Chancellor Hitler and told him that he was the savior of the world and God's mechanism whereby peace would be achieved .

I Googled Pope+Hitler and got some of the following:::

. flyingchariotministries . com/nazisandthechurch . htm" target="_blank">www . flyingchariotministries . com

. jesus-is-savior . com/False%20Religions/Roman%20Catholicism/former_hitler_youth_elected_pope . htm" target="_blank">www . jesus-is-savior . com

. blogspot . com/2010/09/nazis-atheists-and-pope . html" target="_blank">terribletruth-beautifullie . blogspot . com

. blogspot . com/2007/10/nazi-pope-more-martyrs-please . html" target="_blank">jesuitwatch . blogspot . com

Read that last one for sure - for yourself if you want to . I'm not trying to prove one way or any other that Nazis and Popes went together, but Nazis and Popes and Cardinals should not be sleeping together nor on the same dais .

Nazis, atheists and a Pope
With a title like that, you know this one has got to be interesting . Right? OK, maybe not . But this post will put me in the schizophrenic position of kicking the Pope in the arse and then picking him up and fetching him a cup of tea afterwards .

It may or may not have escaped your notice that the Pope recently visited the UK, an event that had the BBC falling all over itself to cover favourably . Anyway, whilst the child rape covering up pontiff was there he made a statement that was guaranteed to set off both the atheist and the historian in me .

So, what happened?

Here's the key part of his speech:

Even in our own lifetime, we can recall how Britain and her leaders stood against a Nazi tyranny that wished to eradicate God from society and denied our common humanity to many, especially the Jews, who were thought unfit to live .

I also recall the regime's attitude to Christian pastors and religious who spoke the truth in love, opposed the Nazis and paid for that opposition with their lives .

As we reflect on the sobering lessons of the atheist extremism of the twentieth century, let us never forget how the exclusion of God, religion and virtue from public life leads ultimately to a truncated vision of man and of society and thus to a 'reductive vision of the person and his destiny' (Caritas in Veritate, 29) .

I'm sorry, what now? Coming from a man who was actually there in Germany during the Nazi period this seems a remarkable piece of ahistorical dumb****ery . There are three choices here as far as I can tell:

Ratzinger is knowingly lying .
Ratzinger is a senile old fool who can't remember what happened and therefore should keep his mouth shut .
Ratzinger has never read a history book on the period and doesn't have a clue what went on .

None paint a very flattering picture - and since he grew up there, was consripted into the Hitler Youth and the German armed forces and his father was an opponent of the Nazis it is hard to believe he didn't understand what went on, and he doesn't seem to have lost his marbles yet . So let's face it, he is knowingly lying .

Its not up to Susan or any people from the countries who fought Germany to try and differentiate who was Nazi and who wasnt.
If a duck looks like a duck and quacks its probaly a duck.
IMO I think the picking of a Nazi Youth member as a Pope isn't the cleverest thing the Papal council have done.
You can see the same thing in Libya now, remember all those pro Gadaffi rallies on TV? Bet you would be hard pressed to find them supporting that clown now.
Germans no different it was muffo till they started losing and we started bombing them.

1238326 2011-10-21 04:52:00 All of this argy bargy is so much fluff really. If we were watching Susan Sarandon making these statements, and if we were honest, us blokes would have to admit we wouldn't have heard a word she said. Our attention would be elsewhere. John H (8)
