| 4502 | 2000-04-16 15:47:00 | Hi there my story began some weeks ago when I started to get error messages saying unable to find dll?s for programmes that were running then I would start a programme and start working then it would start to say there was an error in the .exe and shut down and lock the machine up. It was not just one programme it was across the board of all that I run but my graphics and scanner was the worst it also came up with not enough ram and shut down. After a while it would not even boot so I reinstalled win 98 after trying scan disk, defrag and also reinstalling the graphics and scanner software to avail. After a couple of lock ups I managed to reinstall win98 and my other software it worked for a day or so then I started to get these messages {a fatal exception OE has occurred at oo28:coo4d776 in VxD V Cache (o1) + ooooo19a the current application will be terminated}. Then I was not able to boot at all again. So reinstalled again more of the same but got it installed then I got the same as above then I got these {An exception OE has occurred at OO28:COO4D776 in VxD Vcache (O1) + OOOOO19a this was called from OO28:COO4AA6A in VxD V FAT (O1) + OOOO9CB6 it may be possible to continue normally.} and { a fatal exception OE has occurred at OO28:COO4D776 in VxD V cache (O1) + OOOOO19A the current application will be terminated } Now ready to throw the machine out the window I noticed that the memory check at start up was not always the same but it always said it was ok. The machine came with 64mg of ram and I have put 2 more dims of 64 in a couple of months ago giving me a total of 192mg ram. Now my father?s pc was infected with a virus just before my pc started to play up so that?s what I thought I was dealing with. That?s why I thought it was software. But after noticing the ram check I removed the ram that I had put in and it all worked fine so I put in one of the new dimms and removed the old ram still ok. Then removed that and put in the last dimm still ok. So I put in both the new dimms and the ram check was out, I removed one new dimm put in the old dimm the ram check was out so I swapped the new dimms about and the same again the ram check was out on the ram check I was getting 65536OK coming up with any one of the ram but when I put any two in it was coming up with different numbers every time it booted. It was coming up with 65792K and below. So am I right in thinking that the second slot on my motherboard is to working right? Also when I removed the old ram and put in a new dimm on it?s own it also came up with {recommended SDRAM CAS latency time ?2?} now will that affect any thing or not when I put the new ram in on it?s own I changed the setting to 2 in the bios but still the check was out. Now the machine is a pIII 450 with a J-7bxan Rev:2.1 mother board and pc100 ram. Now I have been struggling with this for some weeks now and I am limited in knowledge about these damn machines am I right about the mother board slot or am I looking in the wrong place any help PLEASE Thanks Tony |
