4824 2000-05-23 06:41:00 Are there any motherboard requirements for installing an internal 56k modem card? Are they ISA, PCI or any kind of slot available?
Specifically, will a new internal 56k modem work in a socket 5 Pentium? or old style socket 7?

4825 2003-12-01 20:29:00 you can get 56k modems in pci and isa Isa is the best and as for the requirments I used to surf the net with my old 486 Jacob4165 (199)

Only in some circumstances - usually where you have poor line conditions, the older ISA technology seems to be more robust in maintaining a steady, albeit slower, connection.

Generally the pci units will give faster speeds and better data integrity

4830 2003-12-03 02:10:00 Isn't the theroy that older isa modems were hardware modems?

I see on one of my pricelists that i can get some hardware pci modems,Nice price as well, might have to get a handfull of them babies.

4831 2003-12-03 02:43:00 unfortunately isa slots are somewhat obsolete in new computers not to mention that isa modem are more expensive than pci.

I was rather annoyed when my old 33.6k isa modem wouldn't fit my new comp (due to no isa slots)
