| 4901 | 2000-05-30 08:20:00 | Hi - hope someone can assist... I've added a second hard drive and am experiencing some odd symptoms. Running w98 + 1st patch, and have a P2 350 (intel) with a seagate 4g drive and Asus cd, and new drive is also Seagate 4.3g. Previous setup was C primary master and D (CD) primary slave, both running off 1st IDE slot, with cable connected to D then C. I added the new drive, and changed cabling. Old drive is still C (primary master) and new drive (now D) primary slave - these run off 1st IDE, and have the connector first attached to slave (D) and then C. New cabling I inserted to 2nd IDE and connected to cd drive, which is now Secondary Master. (now E) Jumper settings I set appropriately. I have an Award bios, set to auto for all drives. Symptoms are... every time I run Windows Explorer it activates Auto Run from my cd - so whatever cd I have in the drive now auto exec's every time I do an explorer op, or even when I do any app that has an Explorer type function. Also - tried 3 times to scan disc the new drive, and it stalls about a 1/4 way thru, and after 3 hours still won't progress. Also experiencing probs with Netscape now which may or may not be related. The new drive was perfect before installation, and was pre-formatted etc. I can happily copy and save and execute files to and from the new drive. Any tips or checks would be much appreciated, ta. |
