On searching online I get to different answers- one is you have to disable the intergrated graphics before fitting the new video card the other is you dont have too the computer will automatically change to the new card. | 1264305 | 2012-03-11 07:30:00 | Both lol. Usually you can just plug them in, swap the cable over, and away you go. Occasionally you may need to go into the BIOS and disable onboard, but it's fairly uncommon these days. It is a good Idea to download the latest drivers rather than use the disk that comes with new graphics cards also. |

| 1264307 | 2012-03-12 22:04:00 | The safest path may be to go into BIOS and configure it to use a card. Save and exit BIOS, and cut the power when it beeps at the restart. Add your card. Say your prayers. Reboot, and make sure your drivers are handy. |

If it is Intel, you can just drop in a VGA card and BIOS will disable the integrated controller automatically. However if it is NVidia or AMD graphics, depending on the motherboard model, they tend to operate as SLI or X-Fire, or as dual cards. In such instances, it is better to go into the BIOS setup and disable integrated graphics AFTER you have installed the new VGA Card. |
