Here's an interesting article about the differences between male and female voices, the effects they have on us and their use in modern technologies. It's quite a long article - the link jumps to the bit about Apple's SIRI person (bquot.com)a An here's a quote from earlier in the article that covers both gender and racial stereotyping in one hit! "This may explain why in almost all GPS navigation systems on the market, the default voice is female. One notable exception has been Germany, where BMW was forced to recall a female-voiced navigation system on its 5 Series cars in the late 1990s after being flooded with calls from German men saying they refused to take directions from a woman". |

And appauling. Should give them a nav with a Jewish voice to remind them of the prices of their bigotry, racism, sexism and tell them to ****. On the other hand, a male voice to a nav system might help to prevent women from driving into lakes, coz they'll stop to argue with a males advice... even if it is a machine. Sexist? Who, me? Might have to get a male voiced nav for the bedroom. "Nag at that all night. I'm going to sleep... finally" |
