1239685 2011-10-26 10:29:00 If it didn't boot it probably never will without a fresh install. You can boot off a windows disk right? icow (15313)

If i disconnect one of my drives, yes. (new mobo only has 1 ide.)

I've tried startup repair but that didn't work.

1239687 2011-10-27 03:03:00 Have reinstalled windows 7, now running of 1 ide hard drive and 1 dvd drive. Am now installing chipset drivers. then will install browser an dvd software etc.. and Battlefield and other games.

I'm not going full blast on this installation due to when i get my xmas money, i'm getting myself a 2tb sata drive, so i'll do a clean install on that, then i'll get serious with customizing everything back the way it was.

Anyways, where is the best place to get a 2TB sata drive? i was thinking PBtechnologies, as there is a store in reach, and their site is selling them for $99. I thought that was pretty cheap.

1239688 2011-10-27 07:31:00 2TB drive for $99 dollars -- Doubt it - think you are missing a number, try $299 is more closer to it.

Any way by Xmas you may be out of luck -- the floods over seas have put a huge strain on HDD supply world wide -- look up the other thread on here about HDD shortage -- prices are sky rocketing with whats available, most of the suppliers in NZ are out of stock, and what is available is expensive now compared to what it was a week ago.

I was after a 500GB drive for a build, have found a supplier that has some but their stocks are not showing on their site, as its part of a package deal, the price since last week has gone up by $46 (wholesale)

Just looked at Ascents web site the Western Digital Caviar Black WD2002FAEX Hard Disk Drive, 2000GB has gone UP by $174 basically over night, now at $439

From their site -- read as things are only going to get worse sooner than later
Major hard drive shortage. Hard drive production has been severely affected due to the flooding in Thailand. This is resulting in major stock shortages. As a result prices are currently fluctuating on a daily basis.

1239689 2011-10-27 08:16:00 I think i misread.

I might look on trademe for a second hand sata drive. At the moment im running 1 of my 160mb ide drives, and 1 ide burner. It's a bit of a strain, but my pc is more or less becoming my gaming/video editing computer, and im storing less and less on it and more of my music is on my laptop.

1239691 2011-10-27 08:27:00 I assume he meant 160GB

But 160MB might be correct too, I have some old Conner Peripherals drives about that size...

1239692 2011-10-27 08:41:00 I mean 160GB. I've never had anything with such a small drive. smallest drive i've ever had was a 511mb drive in an old Toshiba Satellite laptop (one of the original ones, with a win95 sticker on it, and only a floppy, no cd drive). goodiesguy (15316)
