1240140 2011-10-26 23:16:00 ... do they get a bonus per child for teaching little b'stards like Metla ? ... I think that would add another $50/day + counselling fees ...

Ideally they would be capable of dealing with all but the most abnormal of challenges in their profession and pay grade, Just like everybody else who works for a living, who has responsibilities and expects to be paid for their time and skills.

If not then they require either re-training or re-positioning.

1240141 2011-10-26 23:27:00 Most teachers are at school at least an hour before lessons start and many do not leave until about 5pm. That sounds like a fair days work to me. It is not necessary to say that they should stay at school for 40 hours per week as most teachers are at school that long and, in some cases, even more than 40 hours.

I can't understand why you would discount work that teachers take home. Certainly it is their choice as to whether or not they take work home, but as my daughter says, she would much rather mark student's papers in the comfort of home than at school. One way or another, it is part of their work and needs to be done outside of teaching hours.

Yes, it is the teacher's choice if they decide to take work home, but remember that many teachers are wives and have a family to look after so they need to be home in time to cook the evening meal. School work is often done after dinner.

That rant just shows how ignorant you probably are of the true working conditions for teachers Metla. Billy

Thank you for that, Billy. Very true. Metla is probably basing his judgement on his experience at school which is judged on the basis of what appeared to happen (when he was at school) rather than what is factual - so far as teachers are concerned.

I did not think that what my daughter wrote could be considered whingeing, rather she was explaining what her wages could be if she were paid baby sitter wages, and if she was being paid baby sitter wages, then teachers would be earning twice as much as they do now. She was simply telling it as it is. Most teachers do the job they do because they have a passion for the job and they enjoy it very much. Rarely do they become a teacher because of how much they are paid.

Many parents send their children to school well before school begins as many parents start work well before school starts and because many parents work until 4 or 5pm there are many students who stay at school after school has finished for the day. Who looks after these children? Who else but the teachers.

My daughter wrote her dissertation to dispel inaccurate opinions concerning teachers. It was not moaning but an attempt to educate people, such as Metla, who have little understanding and appreciation of the work performed by a teacher. The point was that teachers are baby sitters who educate. Her point was that if teachers were paid baby sitting rates - and baby sitting is a big part of their work - they would receive more than double their present wage.

I concur with Billy - "I could go on but you don't deserve it."

1240144 2011-10-26 23:41:00 I concur with Billy - "I could go on but you don't deserve it."

Fine by me, I don't consider anything you write as being worth reading, apart from the thread title and the last line I quoted I didn't read a word of it.

Billy on the other hand is a heavy hitter well grounded in life experience and intelligence, I take on everything he has to say, Even if just to throw out a blunt opposing argument.

Just don't let him know that, It might take some of the fun out of it.

The floor is always open.

Except when it is closed.

So you are commenting on a thread that you did not read. That makes no sense at all. How are you able to make an intelligent comment on something of which you obviously know nothing? That is just stupid. But then, bigotry has always been your strong point, eh?
Roscoe (6288)
1240146 2011-10-27 01:17:00 You actually consider that load of mush is the base for intelligent comment?

That aside, we all know what the teachers moan about year after year. The issue isn't new. If by chance I do put forward something intelligent its because of how I think, not due to what you wrote.

1240147 2011-10-27 02:02:00 As long as the teaching profession continues to resist any method to grade their perfomance, protect poor performing teachers, conceal criminals/sex offenders et al in their midst I am on Metla's team. Good teachers should be very well paid but some of the twits I have known should be unemployed. CliveM (6007)
1240148 2011-10-27 02:48:00 and their pay and position should be determined by how well they perform.
It is the only thing I agree with you on in this thread.

Lmao.

whats the point met's?
You listen or read what you consider to be important, and often its not the truth, you wouldnt know the truth about teachers even it smacked you in the face.

you have made your mind up, in my experience you dont change your thinking ever even if its pointed out you are incorrect, so arguing or discussing with you about teachers to me is a moot point, because unless you are one, you have no idea what they do, how much extra they do, and with a lot of under resourced schools doing wondrous things with children that some times fall between the cracks...........the teachers that do that are often not seen doing the extra you talk of.
The ones that often moan the most are often the higher paid, private school teachers who think they are worth more not by what they do, but of where they hold a job no matter how little or lots they do.
There will always be the free riders in this profession, especially the ones we work harder for to hide there lack of ability ( they would be in every school and centre) or desire to succeed, to keep up the reputation or children's level of learning.

Maybe you need to be a parent help at your children's centre's or school for a week or two, join the board of trustee's become a parent representitive, and come back to me and say how much money they are ripping us off. how unworthy they are, and how bad the children are being neglected.

Have a Nice day metla, you are entitled to your opinion, but unless its based on fact or actual experience then what you say is about as good as what sticks to your shoe... and smells funny.
