1240071 2011-10-26 19:58:00 iPhone 4S has a dual-core 1Ghz
Samsung Galaxy S2 has a dual-core 1.2Ghz

Watch this short video on the two devices: www.youtube.com

1240072 2011-10-26 20:00:00 The iPhone 4S outperforms the Galaxy S II by a very large margin (benchmark tests). See here:
www.youtube.com

I am going to recommend that my friend get the iPhone. She already has an iPod so I guess it will be easy for her to learn as it is similar.

[edit] - Chill, we doubled. Going to watch your vid now...

1240073 2011-10-26 20:10:00 Ouch!!! The iPhone does not do well with the drop test!! :waughh:

I also see that at the end of the benchmark video (see my post above) the reviewer states that the Galaxy "is blazingly fast". For normal use I doubt anyone would notice a difference between the iPhone and Galaxy.

1240075 2011-10-27 00:54:00 as a person who has both Iphone 4 and galexy S....

the speed is about the same, "iphone 4" vs "galexy s" and I gather that "iphone 4S" is about the same as "galexy SII"

I find Iphone has the "just works, easy to use, does what is says on the box"
everything feels well integrated, very finished product.
however, you are locked down to what Steve thinks you need.

the android has a nice feel of "it's my phone and I can do anything I want with it"
much more freedom to add application and functions.
however not a easy to use, some functions feel a bit un-finished.

as for a camara, the galexy SII is about the same as the iphone 4.
I gather that the iphone 4S is much better camara than any other phone.

for a more technical person, galaxy SII
for a non-tech user Iphone 4.
for a person who can wait, Iphone 4S

1240076 2011-10-27 01:03:00 I'd never buy another iphone purely due to itunes. Metla (12)
1240077 2011-10-27 01:05:00 I've owned both, the iphone has that "Wow omg is that an iphone!!" factor and worked brilliantly with my dock, speakers, car head unit etc .

The Galaxy SII is faster, has a nicer screen, better video and camera . I have a 32gb micro sd card filled with movies in various formats, all of which are supported out of the box . Notifications and voice recognition are better and the ability to customise it is incredible .

Oddly I still get that "Wow omg is that an iPhone" with my SGS2 :D

Oh and posted from my
Samsung Galaxy S2

1240078 2011-10-27 02:33:00 darkstar, robsonde - nice informative replies. Thanks.

I just rang Apple. The 4S is not available in NZ yet (guess you know that already robsonde). Disappointing - the 4S is far better than the iPhone 4.

Anyway, I presented the facts to my friend, who already has an iPod. I told her the Galaxy was a bit larger, had double the capacity (16 Gb vs 8 Gb), and would survive a drop-crash onto a hard surface better than an iPhone, but an IPhone would probably be easier to use and that she could use the speaker dock station that she bought for her iPod.

Surprisingly, she wanted to go for the Android.

I thought she would choose the iPhone since she is not 'technical' and it would be easier to use - similar to her iPod. She especially liked the double amount of storage and said that she would buy another speaker docking station if necessary (I told her there probably is one that that has bluetooth so that she could play her mp3 music wirelessly or otherwise a connector cable would do it).

She then asked what I would get and I told her why I don't like Apple products, e.g. as robsonde said "much more freedom to add application and functions", plus my feelings that Apple fanatics are part of a SJobs cult following, etc. LOL. However, in case she finds the Galaxy difficult to operate, I clearly stated that an iPhone is a quality product and would meet her needs well.

Anyhow, thanks again for all the feeback. Oh BTW, I can see a big problem arising - I will have to set up the Galaxy for her and I know I am going to want one!

1240079 2011-10-27 04:03:00 The iphone comes in 16gb, 32gb and 64gb. SGS2 is 16/32 but can hold a micro sd. xyz823 (13649)

The only iPhone on the NZ Apple site has 8 Gb. Is there somewhere else it can be purchased? I assume ordering from other countries would be a no go as it would be locked to that country's phone companies.
