5082 2000-06-12 19:43:00 Win 98 on my 6 week old computer suffered some sort of major melt down that killed most of the directories and programs I had added to the machine (although everything in Windows and Program Files remained intact). I was able to get almost everything back using Scan Disk, although I still have a major tidy up to do (it restored 8 character DOS names everywhere, and half my games were completely corrupted). I have three connected questions - can anyone tell me what might have caused this (the machine had been sitting idle for 3 hours, and all I did was move the mouse to deactivate the screen saver) - is it likely this event will happen again? - and as part of the recovery I have ended up with the Windows directory showing up twice on my C drive ( the files are only there once). Does anyone know how I can remove the duplicate WITHOUT reloading the entire system (I still don't know half of the stuff that came pre loaded..so it'd be a major nightmare just now..)

Thanks!!1
