| 5113 | 2000-06-14 12:14:00 | I have set up the phone line at home so that the line comes directly into the modem and all the telephones on the rest of the system are feed via the phone jack on the modem. This has obvious benefits such as no-one is able to disrupt your internet connection by picking up a telephone as they are all disconnected when the modem is connected. The problem is actually the reverse. If you try to connect with the modem and someone is on the telephone, their call get interupted as the relay is activated and of course the modem won't connect either because the line is busy and there is no dial tone. What I need to know is, is there any way of having the modem detect the dial tone without trying to connect first, ie; without activating the modem relay? Many thanks, Geoff. |
