| 5341 | 2000-07-04 05:41:00 | My 386 was upgraded to P166 a while back and performed well for a long time. Recently some strange messages have been cropping up it just seems to be one prioblem after another. 1. On start-up I get a message 'There was an internal error & one of the windows you were using has been closed. It is recommended that you save your work and close all programs and then restart your computer.' I do that and on restart just get the same message again. If I click to close the message panel the computer functions alright. 2.My CD worked perfectly well for no obvious reason is playing up. Clicking on the CDPlayer icon brings up the usual window but it tells me 'The device is in use. Waiting for drive to become available.' Or, if I use the dedicated CD button on the keyboard the message 'Cd' flashes up, even though there's a disk in place. 3. I used Internet Explorer a lot but now when I call it up I'm told that 'This program has performed an illegal operation and will be closed down' And under details it says- 'program caused an exception 6d007fH in module KERNEL32.DLL at 014f:9a07c'. It invites me to 'close' but all that does is lock the whole thing up. It's all very strange but maybe you can shed some light on where to start tackling the problems. Many thanks. |
