| 5401 | 2000-07-09 01:29:00 | Oops! I have 3 hard drives installed in my old P90. 1, the biggest (Fujitsu 4.3) on the Primary IDE channel, the other 2 on the secondary. Following a Magazine tip I enabled DMA on them all (the article said it wouldn't do any damage, if it didn't work I could go to safe mode and undo it). Problem: On reboot Windows 95B can only see the main drive, Norton reports the others as missing, it seems to think they are removable drives. No sweat, I thought, off into safe mode and device manager.OK all drives there, no yellow blobs...but hello, when I go into the settings tab the DMA box isn't ticked...how do I untick it? Tried to cycle it through tick/untick but Windows reports an error writing to the registry, says the disk is too full (not true)or to reboot. This of course takes me in circles. Back to device manager in normal mode, there's an exclamation blob beside the secondary IDE controller and the settings tab says it's not working. The Bios sees the drives OK. I ran a redetect but it made no difference. My thoughts are that I need to delete the secondary IDE controller and reinstall but I'm not sure where I'd get the required driver. Thanks, Barry Joyce |
