2012-03-15 20:47:00 | This'll teach me. Thought I'd install 2nd hard drive to my computer as it has 2 sata plugs. Pity I didn't remember that my DVD player is connected to one of them. How dumb is that  | Clod (7853) | |
2012-03-15 21:53:00 | When I added the 3rd hard drive to my file server remembering it only has one IDE and two sata slots I had to unplug the DVD drive, so if I ever need to reinstall I will have to unplug one of the drives again | gary67 (56) | |
2012-03-15 21:58:00 | Thanks.Thats an idea. I hardly ever use the Dvd drive anyway. | Clod (7853) | |
2012-03-16 19:10:00 | I had an issue like that with one of my machines so I bought an external DVD drive from the Warehouse for $60 | nedkelly (9059) | |
2012-03-16 19:27:00 | I got given an external DVD drive that I am hardly ever likely to use :\ Works fully... just not sure what to use it with

2012-03-17 00:42:00 | Or buy a cheap 2 or 4 port sata controller and add more ports, just make sure you have an available PCI-e or PCI slot and get the appropriate type. | dugimodo (138) | |
2012-03-17 18:36:00 | Didn't even know such a thing existed dugimodo. I've got a spare PCI slot but I see you can get 1.5 or 3gb sata. Does it make any difference which one you get? | Clod (7853) | |
2012-03-17 18:59:00 | Not unless you plan on connecting a SSD and if it's PCI the bus doesn't really have the speed to handle 3Gb/s (I'm pretty sure). Only thing if you get 1.5gGb/s controller you may to install a link on your hard drive to make it compatible. Maybe the faster one is better just because it's the newer standard and should theoretically be more compatible with modern drives, but the speed isn't really an issue. Edit: Something along the lines of www.pp.co.nz
