| 1240788 | 2011-10-30 00:01:00 | Hi all, don't even know if what I am considering can be done or not. My son has given us his stereo and speakers, the problem I have is to install where I want to in my lounge, the wiring to the speakers is a pain in the proverbial. Is there a unit available that will allow me to place the speakers in the desired location and tranmit wirelessly to them? Rny. |

This sort of thing? www.amphony.com www.amphony.com Dont see anything available in NZ in a Google search. There are home theatre systems available with wireless rear speakers (though remember they still need a power supply). www.panasonic.co.nz Might be easier/cheaper to run the wiring under the carpet/floor (or through the ceiling). :D |

The speakers don't just require a line level input, they require an amplified input. The product in the first link that feersumendjinn provided will do that, but you still have to get power to the unit's that mount on the back of the speakers. Great if there is already a power point nearby, but useless if there is not. I did home theater installs for a few years and I have seen some very creative ways of getting cables around. Is the floor carpeted? You can get very flat (but still decent gauge) cable that can be run underneath carpet. You pull the carpet up from one side, tack the cable to the floor and re-attach the carpet. Barely noticeable when the carpet goes back down. Judging from your post however, you really want a simpler solution than that. |

Well not really, but it would make much more sense to just run longer speaker cables. |

Thanks for your input. Rny All my speaker wiring is either below the floor or in ceiling spaces (for upstairs rooms). If you have wooden floors and adequate crawl space it is a reasonably easy job. Even if the crawl space is too limited, provided you can get a stick with slotted end to the tail, wrap 15cm or so with double sided sticky tape, wind it up to get some grip then pull it through gently with somebody feeding it down from above faster than you are pulling. I've reticulated telephone, burglar alarm, network, speaker and some power wiring through difficult routes with a little ingenuity and a load of patience. I fed a cable horizontally over 5 metres between the ceiling of my office and the floor above by pushing it through a length of plastic waterpipe, tying it off at the far end then pulling back the pipe. Where there's a will, there's a way. Tell your son you are thinking of revising your will, then ask for his assistance with the wiring. :devil Cheers Billy 8-{) |

Under the floor is not an option as we are on concrete. Thanks again, Rny |
