Good link tho, 50% of women in those 2 countries don'tseem to stand a show. They should down pots and pans until they get a say. Lurking. Ps. ran the link on wifey's pc W7 with simlar specs and FF 7, no probs. Have to use her's when she is not looking, lol. We have one vote each too, and could adapt FPP so that the first to get to PC wins. lurks. |

| 1240901 | 2011-11-01 09:08:00 | [QUOTE=B.M.;1057569] Well we replaced FPP with MMP because FPP didn’t work and have found MMP doesn’t work either. So which system will you be supporting? You have PV, STV, & SM and less than 10% of the population has the slightest clue how they all work and are therefore not in a position to make an informed decision. Personally, I think STV may be worth a look, but you really need to have studied the matter in depth to get a decent understanding of the Pro’s and Con’s. F/QUOTE] STV is a form of preferential voting, which is probably the fairest system, it allows people to vote with both their heart and with their head, as far as their second preference is concerned, and more importantly it tends to kill safe seats, since very few candidates get 50% +1 votes. Anything that eliminates a majority of the safe seats is a good thing, because it kills the patronising arrogance of politicians stone dead. Another electoral feature that would be nice would be electoral recall, they have it in the USA, Canada and Switzerland - this allows voters in an electorate to recall their MP if he deliberately ignores the wishes of his constituents, and there is a re-run of the vote. Having been involved in politics in NZ, another thing that is objectionable, is the central party offices of both Labour and National, deciding who the candidate should be in an electorate - it is not democratic, the fairest way is a local primary for each electorate. There should also be strict electoral residency prerequisites for candidates, in the USA a candidate must have had a home in the electorate as his principle place of residence for a full year before nominating - cuts out carpetbaggers and central party office nominees. ( A in the last couple of years a good nominee was excluded from the mayoral race in Chicago as he just fell short of the 12 months residency requirement 85 -90% of voters are traditional party supporters, and will invariably vote for their party irrespective of how bad the party or it's candidate is. Elections are decided by the 10-15% of swinging voters, and most election campaigns revolve around these, as does pork barreling to try and convince these people to vote in a certain way. marginal seats get the most Government expenditure, followed by Government seats, while the short straw is drawn by safe opposition seats. Swinging voters are the intelligent voters, the blindly dedicated party voter doesn't think. |

| 1240902 | 2011-11-01 09:27:00 | The United Kingdom with a population of 60 + million has 650 MPs, to be reduced to 600 from 2015. The USA with a population of over 300 Million has 435 Congressmen in the House of Representatives and 100 members of the Senate. Australia with a population of 22 Million has 150 members of the House of Representatives, and 76 Senatorson a six year term , half of whom are subject to contesting an election each 3 years. So, WHY does New Zealand with a population of about 4.5 million require 120 of the parasites, with their snouts in the public trough? |
