| 1240868 | 2011-10-31 09:53:00 | I wouldnt waste too much time considering the Referendum either as its Non-Binding and some of us remember the Anti-Smacking Referendum where 87.6% of the voters voted for the legislation to be repealed but Key & Co took not a blind bit of notice. Why anyone thinks that this Referendum will change anything that the Politicians dont approve of eludes me. So to summarise, it is a pointless waste of time having Non-Binding Referendums. If the Politicians had any intention at all of listening to the People, all Referendums would be binding. ;) and did we have a referendum to reduce the number of Pollies. I think it is Switzerland that has binding referendums and they seem to be a fairly stable country. |

Your dead right Mike, in 1999 81.47% of the voters voted to reduce the number of Politicians from 120 to 99 and what did they do? Oh yes, they thought we needed 122. Mind you, youd be lucky to find 99 in the house at any one time because of the number on overseas junkets. Anyway, in four days time well be able to celebrate the life of the only man to ever enter Parliament with honest intentions. ;) |

FPP makes for a strong government not a government held to ransom by a small number of commie rabble rousers. Another thing about MMP that disgusts me is when a candidate for an electorate is not voted in but gets in by way of the list. That is just so communist |

| 1240876 | 2011-10-31 19:44:00 | I agree that MMP needs some changes. But it is much better than FPP where big majorities in the Maori seats and Remuera etc stack the voting. And where two or three times the party with less total votes got in. And where a third party can never get established. Granted we need less MP's And we need some way of ranking the lists. As regards Margaret Wilson I also despised her. But what if she only just failed to get voted in by a few votes. If she only got 10% then fair enough that means that people did not want her. That does not mean that the voters really don't want her. |

(And vice versa) Under MMP your vote does count as it is the number of Party votes that governs which party gets in. |
