| 1240858 | 2011-10-31 04:49:00 | I posted this in a past thread: It pretty much sums the situation up. But you will not be able to vote in the coming election anyway. |

| 1240859 | 2011-10-31 06:28:00 | Well we replaced FPP with MMP because FPP didn’t work and have found MMP doesn’t work either. So which system will you be supporting? You have PV, STV, & SM and less than 10% of the population has the slightest clue how they all work and are therefore not in a position to make an informed decision. Personally, I think STV may be worth a look, but you really need to have studied the matter in depth to get a decent understanding of the Pro’s and Con’s. Further, regardless of what is chosen this time, and in the unlikely event that government should decide to run with it, it will just become another referendum in 2014, the results of which would come into effect in the 2017 election, by which time it won’t matter because by then the country will be well and truly stuffed. :groan: It really is an exercise in futility designed to give the gullible the “Warm & Fuzzies” but with no real action possible until 2017. STV was sort of designed for Germany and their mates only, after the rest of the world was getting pissed off with them invading everyone. The Germans have laid low with regard to invading counties so a weak government must suit them. Last thing we need in NZ is having to put more names on war memorials in our towns and cities. We want them (Germany, Japan, Italy, Hungary and Romania) with a divisive government and we want a strong one like you get from FPP Personally I want a sort of democracy which stops greens and socialist parties from having any input in government of NZ. |

| 1240861 | 2011-10-31 07:36:00 | It might not be a binding referendum but anyone who doesn't vote on this issue must have Ostrich mentality. MMP is failing all NZers except the minor parties that shouldn't even exist like Hone's Mana party, just as FFP failed. Only 2 countries that I know of use MMP the other being Germany it if they can't make it work nobody can Hone's Mana party only has 1 MP, and he was elected by a majority of 1117 in a byelection. Whatever you think of Hone please don't blame MMP. |
