Only two use FPP - The UK and the USA afaik And yes Tonight's debate will just be the usual shout fest. I like proportional representation as it gives a chance for a third party to come though (but not the Greens) or get established. But I'd like to know what sort of tweaks they are thinking about for MMP |

| 1240850 | 2011-10-31 03:14:00 | I just hope the communists dont get too many seats, if its a fine day the labor voting commies tend to vote if its wet they just lie on the couch. Years ago I can remember my old Schoolmaster telling us that Communists were bad, very bad. There was in fact a Communist Party in New Zealand. My old Schoolmaster was very dismayed that a few New Zealanders actually voted for the Communist Party. In them days we used to check for reds under the beds before going to sleep. :sleep I remember as a 20 year old looking forward to turning 21 so that I could go into a pub without having to look over my shoulder. Bugger my days if the Government did not drop the legal drinking age to 20 as soon as I reached 21. :groan: I am almost 65 and looking forward to retiring soon. The Labour Party is talking about increasing the retirement age in the near future while the National Party is talking about increasing the retirement age within the next 20 years. |

MMP is failing all NZers except the minor parties that shouldn't even exist like Hone's Mana party, just as FFP failed. Only 2 countries that I know of use MMP the other being Germany it if they can't make it work nobody can  Well we replaced FPP with MMP because FPP didnt work and have found MMP doesnt work either. So which system will you be supporting? You have PV, STV, & SM and less than 10% of the population has the slightest clue how they all work and are therefore not in a position to make an informed decision. Personally, I think STV may be worth a look, but you really need to have studied the matter in depth to get a decent understanding of the Pros and Cons. Further, regardless of what is chosen this time, and in the unlikely event that government should decide to run with it, it will just become another referendum in 2014, the results of which would come into effect in the 2017 election, by which time it wont matter because by then the country will be well and truly stuffed. :groan: It really is an exercise in futility designed to give the gullible the Warm & Fuzzies but with no real action possible until 2017. |
