1264797 2012-03-14 09:14:00 Could I have a response of a helpful nature this time please.
The problem is that my sound card works for some programs and not fore others.
Chameleon Clock no longer chimes the hours either.

1264798 2012-03-14 09:19:00 Get rid of all but one AV program and antimalware program for a start. And disable Spybot's option to check the registry whatever its called. This can screw things up Speedy Gonzales (78)
1264799 2012-03-14 09:37:00 So did you check the default output device? Some programs can be set to use particular sound devices, others just use the default. dugimodo (138)
1264800 2012-03-14 09:43:00 Are you using Windows Vista or Windows 7?

In both of those you can change volume levels on a per-program basis. Could be that some programs have had their volume turned off but not others.

With your attitude it is very unlikely.:groan:

Wasn't aware of that as I don't use Win7 enough.

1264804 2012-03-14 21:15:00 I've never actually seen these 'conflicts'

But, running multiple anti-anything programs with realtime scanners will at the least impact system performance horribly.
You won't see them apart from slowing the system down but each time you open a file with three AV running they will be arguing (conflicting) over which gets to scan it first.
Conflict = to come into collision or disagreement.

Vince - you have to remember we are all mind readers here and can see your computer so its simple to fix it -- ( I'm being sarcastic if you didn't cotton on )

Going by your descriptions "no sound from Mozilla Thunderbird and Firefox" Funny mine doesn't make any sounds at all either. Movies or music playing does, but not Firefox on its own. :p

There may be some file assignations not right in FF, open tool/options/Application Tab - there you can select any type of sound/Program to a certain application on the PC already.

Dont ask which one, as before we cant see what you have.

re the Clock - did you check to make sure its actually got a sound file connected to it now and its actually working from that sound - Open the Application, Actions/Chimes/Edit/ Sound

1264806 2012-03-15 01:29:00 I found the source of the problem, but I don't feel like sharing it; considering the responses I've had. Vince (406)
