1264910 2012-03-14 08:37:00 I just got cold called by a man with an Asian accent, telling me that my computer is tainted with corrupted files that would not be found by antivirus programs and that it is sending infected emails.

He said he represented a company that managed the windows O/S.I asked if he worked for Microsoft, he said no. Then he asked me to sit in front of my computer and follow his instructions to remove said junk.
That is when I hung up!

The thing is I have only mentioned my currant ("Strange sound problem") on Press F1! Has this site been hacked?
Have we got a spy on board.

1264914 2012-03-14 18:43:00 Where have you been hiding all these years. People have been getting these calls for years. Some people do what they ask and the next thing there computer won't work. Then the caller says that they can fix it for x amount of dollars and then they ask for your credit card number so they can charge you. It is a scam.

1264915 2012-03-14 19:54:00 This is a disturbing twist on these scams.
Some AV companies outsourced support are doing similar things

1)And how would he know it had viruses if Avs can't find it?
2)How would he know this sitting on the other side of the world?
3)Why would he care?
4)Yes, it is possible for a PC to be used as a spam box but the only people likely to notice or care would be your ISP - or perhaps your hosting compnay if you had a website that was doing it...
5)They'd warn you not fix it for you..

It's just common sense, think about it....

Yet so many still get caught out , & hand over Credit card details

If someone just turned up at your house or phoned you saying your car or TV was faulty & he will fix it for you......
