1241072 2011-10-31 10:47:00 We started growing broccoli in autumn. Getting back in it now with the warmer weather.

My question. When you buy a packet of seeds, chives and chilli for example are very small seeds. So do you just use one seed or do you sprinkle a few in the same area?

Also have any of you sow the seed directly outside instead of indoors first?

:thanks:

1241073 2011-10-31 16:24:00 Plants like chives and chilli's etc you usually buy as baby plants in bundles of 6 or 12 plants. If you are growing bigger plants from seed like beans or peas you make a furrow in the ground and plant one at a time about 100mm apart. Instructions are on the packets. From now on you can plant directly outside.

You can either sow into seed trays and space them out. Or sow direct and weed out the excess.
All the time, I never start anything indoors. But it depends where you live.

1241076 2011-10-31 20:32:00 ive got a reasonably green thumb but i have never had much success with growing from seed.....except carrots and potatoes (pretty hard to muck up potatoes) Gobe1 (6290)
1241077 2011-11-01 07:26:00 I practise a little planting. I buy punnets from M10 for all vegies except
Radish seeds. These are large enough to handle individually, just poke a small
hole in the ground with your finger and drop one in about 40 to 50 mm apart.
I sow about 20 seeds every two weeks. Have rads. for all tyhe summer.

Mostly require only one seed ,\\
But should use 2-3 seeds which can helpful for care..
If one seeds cant able to grow then other one should grow....
My father grow cauliflower....Its seeds too small, but we use 3 seeds in one place....
