1240494 2011-10-28 08:20:00 There I was checking the mail when I noticed a small splash of colour in the ground by the telephone pole (up on an earth bank.) Looking closer I saw a bit of blue ethernet cable sort of half-buried. Seemed a bit odd, but not wanting to run the risk of disconnecting the whole neighbourhood, I went back inside and dialled 123 to report a possible problem. (sidebar - has anyone had to fight their way through the stupid, useless voice recognition system that Telecom uses? I was tearing my hair out by the time I got to a real person.) She on the other hand was very helpful and promised to send someone from Chorus out the same day.

About three hours later a Chorus van arrives, and I show the technician the problem. He reaches down, scrabbles round a bit, and pulls up - wait for it - a piece of blue plastic tape! I was somewhat embarrassed. He was very kind, said very little, and sped off.

So, good, fast efficient service from the telco, and a red-face moment for me.

1240495 2011-10-28 08:43:00 He probably loved it. Getting paid for a call-out during working hours that was 'fixed' in 30 seconds.

He'll be planting short cable strips all over the neighbourhood now in order to score more easy 'fixes'.

With the telecom lady, just talk gibberish over whatever she's saying and eventually she'll put you through to 'someone who can help'.
