Is There any way to preserve long file names from the dos prompt 'without' first running utilities under 95/98/nt etc. For example 95 OS has crashed , we need to recover the data with long file names but am unable to reinstall windows onto pc. We want to be able to tranfer the data from the pc and recover the long file names etc. We are also unable to remove the hard drive from the pc and place it into another machine as a second drive. I am looking for a dos based utility that will allow long file name retention so that I can copy the files using laplink etc onto another pc and then run windows to recover the files etc.
