| 5979 | 2000-08-22 11:32:00 | Heeeeelp! Hi. I bought a new PC about a 2 months ago. It woked perfectly and fast. I have always used a 486 100, and to move up to Amd 500 is great. Now, I hadn't even opened the case (wow!), I was just arranging the PC nicely next to my desk (1 1/2 months ago). I turned it on and got nothing but a constant beep beep beep. I tried resetting, nothing. I tried unplugging it (power switch is bios controlled, so bios wasn't responding). My hdd was spinning up, but nothing else. I am a real computer enthusiest (nerd), and I cannot work out which bit is wrong. I have wiggled cables to no avail. It does this little perfromance occasionally, especially when I have moved the PC or even if I put the tower case sideways/upright. My next prob is a little more of a teaser. I took my PC to a friends house to play Delta Force2. We plugged in his monitor and turned it on. Booted win98 and after 3 min it froze. after that it usually didn't last that long, freezing or rebooting at it's own will. There weren't so many troubles loading linux (x is bombproof!). I tried going to bios to change mem/freq settings, but it usually froze before I could get to the right page. When we pu the case on it's side AND used another monitor it was OK, but as sson as I stod the case up, the screen flickered (now called the flicker of pain) and froze. At the moment my PC is sitting open, on it's side, just working. Even linux has crashed once due to hardware probs. Can you help in any way? Specs are as follows: AMDK6-2 500mhz 128mg ram, 8mb shared with display adapter. the display adapter is inbuilt, a SiS 530 currently running at 66mhz Bios is Award, I can get the serial, but that might be difficult at the moment. I think the Mboard is made by SiS because it has the 530 SiS number printed on it. The IDE controlers are Sis etc. I have an internal stupid motorolla WINmodem (bugger) HArd disk is 5.2(ish)Gb quantum fireball lct 10 05 ANY help would be really appreciated because I am young, and this took a huge chunk out of my personal pocket (I paid full). Many thanks, Seamus |
