1266390 2012-03-22 21:27:00 My supplier is already listing the Gigabyte GV-N680D5-2GD-B GTX680, although its not showing as "in stock", but it cant be far away. Oh, just rang my supplier, they have 4 arriving that are already sold on back-order and suggested if I wanted one to back-order it to make sure I get one. As its so new, its being "alotted" to suppliers (ie: they are being told how many they can have), I guess its until stocks build up a bit. Looks to be about a 2 week wait. As you're in Chch, I may be able to help you if you are serious on getting one (@ below retail!). Iantech (16386)

hmmmmmIf you think along those lines, you will be waiting forever because the next version is always just around the corner. By the time you buy one, its already out of date.

1266392 2012-03-22 21:50:00 Yeah I know but this time around I was going for a sli on the card 2 chip deal to replace the two 480's I have.
Will one 680 be as good as two 480's?

1266393 2012-03-22 23:47:00 I don't like buying first release cards. I prefer to wait a month or two for driver issues and the like to get sorted out first. I got my 580 only a few months ago and expect it to last a good while yet.
Personally I think if I'm going to buy high end cards like that I will not replace it until it fails to run something acceptably, otherwise it makes a lot more sense to buy a mid range card and upgrade it often.
That said I can't imagine 2 x 480s struggling any time soon unless you run crazy high resolutions and I doubt a 680 will match two of them.

1266394 2012-03-22 23:58:00 Usually I am wary of the first gen also but the Keplar is a stripped down and rebuilt Fermi so its already pretty solid in that regard.
Drivers can be iffy but nVidia for me have a good record so I am comfortable.

I just purchased the card :)

1266395 2012-03-23 03:53:00 sli or crossfire on a top of the range card is pointless. My 7950 which i got cheap can play every game i throw at it never going below 40fps with no overclock. Having 2 would be pointless. The 680 is a better card with even less reason to sli. Unless of course you need it for some form of buisness use that requires such performance. and even with the 680's impressive thermals i would be wary about getting a dual gpu card. 1266396 2012-03-23 04:02:00 Running 3 screens to at least 2 cards for it to be viable on the last generation of cards. Then you have micro stutter :angry New generation cards in sli on 120hz screen will look great. icow (15313)
1266397 2012-03-23 04:06:00 I have 3 screens thinking of adding a 4th, and the one card can handle that to my surprise.
and I already have SLI so I can manage heat issues no problem.

Right now I have ordered one of the cards (Thanks Iantech) and I might get another later on.
