1265897 2012-03-19 19:58:00 When looking back at Windows in history Windows was more vulnerable than another Operating System , but recently i have seen the latest windows 8 improve their security levels , to my view i think vista was more vulnerable than XP was but when windows 7 came things got changed , i won't say windows 7 has the best security but yeah much better interms of updating against malware , software update / fix bugs , have a better performance by reminding the user to defrage the system and much more . Now that doesn't mean I don't like Apple security levels , i like apple security levels but some people say their support when having problem is weak . I still believe Apple has a best security suite as a operating , yes even linux . But things can change very soon , or the future . Here is something for a Proof - computerworld.co.nz

Now what's your say on this ?????

1265898 2012-03-19 20:06:00 Security was vastly improved in Vista from XP so I'm not quite sure where you got the idea that the reverse was true. pcuser42 (130)
1265899 2012-03-19 20:26:00 Its all in the numbers game -- There are more Windows PC's world wide being used than MAC's, so the malware writers are going to attack where they can do the most damage.

In the past Apple has had far less problems with this sort of malware, one reason is because of the way the OS works.

BUT when the malware writers decide its time to start attacking other OS's like Apples, then of course there will be an increase of MAC related infections. Its only a matter of time.

As for windows 8 Security -- bit hard to say if its much better than Windows 7, W8 is still not finished, so who knows what else has to be enabled, added, changed etc, cant really judge or give an accurate opinion on a unfinished OS.

1265900 2012-03-19 20:46:00 Wainui is correct, I run antivirus on my mac. Just in the weekend it picked up two nasties. Lucky for me their were windows nasties. Pretty sure it comes from crap the kids download off face book plod (107)
1265901 2012-03-20 00:26:00 Yeah none are perfect, however I suppose another perspective would be to look at what you can do on a machine, to a machine, or with the machine once it is compromised. On Linux, generally if you get user access, you can do less than you could on a Windows account. Mostly that's coz Windows likes you to be an administrator to do almost everything...

That said, I saw a post from Linus on Google+ the other day, was interesting, about why you would need root permissions to change the timezone or networking. Sparked some interesting discussion with some people I know.
Then Matias asked why you even needed root to install software. Guess if you're installing the software in your home dir then it's a non-issue, but global / system-wide obviously needs permissions.

...wait what were we talking about again ? :D

...wait what were we talking about again ? :Di remember last year trying to change the time on one of the workstations, couldn't bloody do it till we had a technician in next. All for changing the bloody time. I realise this is done to stop me messing around with things. But if the machine was capable of updating itself for daylight savings I wouldn't have to worry about it. Which reminds me to book technician in again to change over again shortly

Where are you getting all these random questions from and exactly what purpose do their answers serve?

I do not think you have asked a single "real" question since you joined.

Unless the question is along the lines of "how do i turn my pc on" (asking that online anywhere is silly), then there are no stupid questions. Let the man learn. ;)

1265906 2012-03-20 01:41:00 People come here to get help with issues they are having.

As far as I can see you might as well be formatting your posts like this

blah blah blah blah
Discuss.

But you have already confirmed what I knew, you are wasting our time.
