| 1265474 | 2012-03-16 23:15:00 | I'm looking around for a replacement for my current Telecom CDMA phone which of course will stop working after July 31st. I have very basic requirements, except that I do need to be able to sync the phone with MS Outlook calendar and contacts on my PC. In the 2degrees shop in LynMall, I was told that "all their Android phones will only sync with Gmail". That sounded like absolute b******t to me - can anyone confirm or deny? |

I've found a few after-market apps that say they will do it, but also various pages that imply they are crap. Android-Sync (http://www.android-sync.com/) looks like it could be a possibility. | 1265480 | 2012-03-17 03:51:00 | The syncing has nothing to do with outlook, outlook is just an end point of where your mail ends up. What somebody has suggested is the probably the best option. I'm guessing you use your ISP's email (you have provided very little detail) which is what is limiting you. |

The syncing has everything to do with Outlook, which is the tool I have used for years to manage my email, calendar and contacts. I'm not sure what you mean by "your ISP's email" - if you mean their webmail, then no I don't. I don't want to manage or even look at my email from my cellphone - I just want portable access to my calendar and contacts. I provided very little detail because I thought I was asking a simple question - is it true that Android does not provide Outlook synchronization by default? It appears it doesn't, so either I don't buy an Android phone, or I go the more complex route of getting an after market add-on or the multi step process that has been proposed here. | Tony (4941) | ||
| 1265482 | 2012-03-17 06:26:00 | Outlook is an email/calendar/contact client, not a server. So no it will not do what you want with out using an add on, no email client will. It's only a multistep process once, then it's completely automated over wifi or 3G, doesn't get much easier than that. It will sync will any mail/calendar/contact service that allows active sync, the two i can think of are hotmail and gmail, this is because the data is stored on a server on the internet, not in outlook. |
