1242274 2011-11-06 20:28:00 "Flatmate Majinta Fenwick said it was particularly lucky that two preschoolers living at the house – and who spent a lot of time playing on the deck – were not on it when it collapsed.

Miss Fenwick said the landlord's agent had changed to a Lodge agent "a couple of weeks ago" but there had been no inspection and no response to their requests to the new landlord to have the balcony looked at. " www.stuff.co.nz

Having a party on a deck that you are worried about, the 2012 Darwin Award contest is starting.

1242276 2011-11-06 23:11:00 I'm confused, did the tenants feel the deck was unsafe beforehand? Or are they talking about inspecting it after to fix? It's not the landlords fault if you've got a dozen people on a small deck and it breaks... inphinity (7274)
1242277 2011-11-07 08:42:00 Yes the tenants did want the deck inspected before the accident. They should have kept off it until it was fixed.

My neighbours wanted a small deck off the side of their house for a couple of chairs, the Council insisted it was built strong enough to hold 40 people because that's how many could fit on it. The Council doesn't seem to care about the existing decks that do a Cave Creek from time to time.
