1266244 2012-03-22 01:10:00 ok but my c is the one that is corrupted right know , im going to use D drive , so i dont have a backup ,shall i still do it . Nhashon (16466)
1266245 2012-03-22 01:14:00 If D has the restore partition, if its got an ISO on it, you'll have to burn it, if youre going to install windows on D. Otherwise, you'll have to buy a version of windows. Since you wont have a version of windows to install. If you reinstall windows (back on C), it may fix the corruption. Altho, this may depend on why it became corrupt in the first place Speedy Gonzales (78)
1266246 2012-03-22 02:50:00 FYI ------ Being windows 7 it will have .WIM files and associated folders/files ,not ISO - they went out with Vista.

You can reinstall from the .wim file, but its not a simple task of click this, click that, you would need to boot from a CD (generally win PE) that contains various programs, including Imagex.exe then the image needs to be applied via commands. A recovery partition contains all the necessary applications to run a restore unattended, once you agree to all the guff about over writing, deleting etc.

1266248 2012-03-22 03:53:00 Not always - the recovery may be there but not accessible, or as previously mentioned, corrupted.

Right click on the D drive / Properties, how much is used ?

1266250 2012-03-22 04:16:00 Oh Dear -- Is it labeled Recovery ?? Looking at a Vista Laptop here the recovery partition is labeled HP_RECOVERY (D: )

Have you tried opening the D drive to see its contents,if its empty then what comes to mind is its either not a recovery partiton or someone / something has deleted the contents.

If you try to open the D partition and you get a message saying you dont have permission or its locked then it still may be there.

1266251 2012-03-22 04:25:00 Hey wainui tech it says now do u want to format it before u use it shalll i procees Nhashon (16466)
1266252 2012-03-22 04:42:00 At the moment I wouldn't. "if" theres any thing on the drive by formatting it it will be lost. If its showing as unformatted it may have gotten corrupted somehow, or it possible theres a actual drive problem.

By formatting the drive it currently wont achieve anything, you still wont be able to reinstall windows.

Normally in a case like this if I had the Laptop here, I would boot the computer from a Live Ubuntu (linux) CD and examine the partition to see it shows anything.

Looks like you possibly may have to get hold of a windows 7 DVD and install from fresh using the COA ( Product key) that should be on the bottom of the laptop. Then download the drivers from HP and install them. While they will be on the C drive, I wouldn't trust them to be good, esp if theres corruption or possible infections about.

Just a thought, nothing to lose - click start, look through all programs, look for HP recovery options, sometimes theres a option to make install DVD's from the recovery partition, but I wouldn't go getting hopes up if its been corrupted.
