Your puchasing descision was spot on, Your transfer and setup not so much. Once you get over the hump (and seriously?....Introducing new equipment and systems always generastes an issue or two, How it goes is depentant on experience and planning) it will be a weapon. As if apple could compete..... |

You have a fantastic PC, I'm a wee bit jealous. :p You would never have got a machine as grunty and a usable for the same price buying a Mac. The PC just hasn't been setup correctly from step 1. I also dislike the file transfer wizard - I actually use a program called Total Commander for data transfers of this nature, it's a bit more forgiving than windows explorer, in saying that though, if you've sorted out the folder permissions (turned off UAC for a start) then straight copy and paste should work fine too. I would just about recommend you take the gear to a good local tech and get them to help you get things setup how you want. :) |

OK the 3 boys have long left home and live about 500km away (they have about 100 staff between them around the world) and in any case there is a very intense friendly competitive technology battle between them all - and the old man so there is a bit a stake here! |

| 1265644 | 2012-03-19 00:22:00 | I would have done a clean install. And before that, copy docs / emails etc. Forget about backing up programs that are installed. Install them after | Speedy Gonzales (78) | ||
| 1265645 | 2012-03-19 01:42:00 | ...Ok have a very old copy of Corel Draw.... When got the iPad mail was set up in minutes as was everything else.......this MOST DEFINITELY IS MY LAST PC!! so how did you get corel installed on the ipad then (just kidding). See its just not the same thing :) Expect some minor pain setting up a new OS & a new PC. Some old software just may not work. btw, the INITAL pain would have been much greater in trying to get your stuff to work on an Apple. You would have to buy all new MAC versions of Office, Corel etc etc |

| 1265647 | 2012-03-19 03:58:00 | So would Corel 1997 not run on the iPad.......?! personally cant answer that - Remember if its a windows version you have it wont even work on a MAC natively anyway. Have a read of This Blog /goodbye-mac-hello-pc/ (corelblogs.wordpress.com) written back in 2011. Dont know if the latest apple OS has any better controls, but I have heard several times from professional people who do design work saying a PC will give you better and more options than a MAC when using that program. Some programs are designed to work with MAC's and do so very very well, while others are designed to work with Windows and some work better, some maybe not so good. if you want Corel applications for the ipad These here (www.corel.com) may be of interest. |

| 1265648 | 2012-03-21 02:51:00 | Your copy of Corel Draw most probably is a 16 bit application. Microsoft from Windows 95 onwards have a technology called WOW (Windows on Windows) to enable running 16 bit apps on 32 bit OS. Sadly they decided not to support 16 bit apps on 64 bit OS and hence your Old Corel Draw wont work on Win 7 64 bit. It will still happily run on Win 7 32 bit. | tmrafi (5179) | ||
| 1265649 | 2012-03-24 20:29:00 | Hey guys I was being facetious over that remark about Corel Draw on the iPad! And out of interest that 15 year old software is working well on W7 64 bit after Speedy identified the Windows help problem. So Coral Draw 7 has now worked on 95, 98, XP (thank goodness did never have Vista) and W7! | stuffed (1469) | ||
